Artist Statement
My interest with clay started in a sculpture class during my undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph. Since then, I have been experimenting with various forms of clay and working as a full time potter for over 20 years. Throughout this time, I have attended numerous workshops and seminars, but I have no formal education in ceramics.
I am primarily a functional potter and enjoy making pots that have a purpose; however, I am constantly pushing the boundaries, which allows my work to evolve. My clay sculpture pieces allow me to explore glazes and techniques that would not be possible in utilitarian pieces. I enjoy the play with melted glass and raw clay shapes, in addition to the very basic form of the pinch pot. It's a return to my beginnings in sculpture, with the emphasis on form and narrative.
