Doug Robertson

Doug started mushing his hands into wet clay at the 1992 York Region Arts Camp while he was employed to teach computer music. He melted his new raincoat by standing too close to the kiln's exhaust holes. He asked, "What's that burning smell? ... my coat, ... and by the way, what do potters do?"

From his first lump of clay, Doug sculpted a comedic cow as a light switch. He then explored quirky faces, plates & platters, tumblers, vases and now, after many years of pottery, he's concentrated on cups and strongly believes that no one needs "just another boring cup." Doug has brainstormed to "Think outside of the CUP."

Each cup has a unique design where the handle is integral to the design of the cup: the cobblestone road for the penny farthing bicycle, the snorkel for the scuba diver, the snowshoes for the walk in the winter forest, and the flip-flop for the beachy-themed Muskoka chairs cup. Doug loves sculpture and loves that the owner of his cups can touch the art.
