Advanced Wheel Class - Wednesday Mornings (7 sessions)
Dates: Wednesdays mornings, May 17th to June 28th, 2023
Time: 10:00am to 1:00pm
Cost for Guild Members:
$280.00 (includes tax) - This does not include the cost of clay. Members will supply their own clay
(purchased through PTP)

$380.00 (includes tax). This price includes one bag of clay, plus glazes and firing for pieces made in

Class Size: Maximum 8 Students
This is an advanced wheel class suitable for those with experience wishing to improve their throwing skills.
Students must be comfortable wedging and centering several pounds of clay, as well as throwing and trimming
cylinders, small bowls, and plates.
During this course we will look to improve the skill level of the participants while working on developing
more efficient throwing techniques and focus on throwing larger, more challenging forms. We will work on
specific forms throughout the course: this may include large plates, lids and galleries, teapots and other
multiple piece forms. We will also consider design details, such as handles and spouts.

Introducing a fusion of beginner wheel thrown and hand-building projects. Learn how you can turn a simple object
thrown on the wheel into a one of kind piece that expresses your artistry and love of clay. Ideas using clay
as the medium will focus on textures, image applications, carving, lidded vessels and the use the freedom of
glazing to create and bring your idea to fruition. A variety of found objects as well as pottery tools are
used to provide different carving textures and finishes. It's all in the details...

Class Size: Maximum 8 Students
In this 7-week course you will develop confidence while learning the fundamentals of wheel work. You will
learn by watching demonstrations and through practising centering, opening, raising walls, throwing cylinders
and bowls. This class is ideal for the beginner or someone who has limited experience on the wheel and is
looking to practice their skills with the help of an experienced instructor. Students will also learn and
have time to trim and glaze the pieces they make. It is recommended that participants have some minor hand
building or wheel experience.
Surface Decoration for Guild Members Only - Tuesday Mornings (6 sessions)

Explore different ways to make your personal mark on the clay surface at soft, leather hard, bone dry and
bisque stages. Learn how to make linocut and bisque stamps, bisque sprig molds, and collagraph plates.
Mix coloured slip and learn how to apply it (brush, trail, inlay, sgraffito, dry-brush, monoprint).
Try your hand at Mishima and water-etching, play with underglazes, and more!

pots, coils, slab work, sculpture, and glazing. A wide range of techniques and methods will be demonstrated
